Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

How long will my child need lessons?

The length of time depends on you and your students goals. Are you hoping that your student, who is brand new to chess, will learn the fundamentals and become a confident player? In most cases, this can be achieved in 3 - 6 months. After our initial consultation, I will make a recommendation as to how often (once or twice a week) and for how long we should meet.

How long does each session last?

Each session typically lasts 45 minutes.

How do you teach chess online?

All we need is a strong internet connection, a computer, and a webcam. I primarily use GoogleMeet for us to video chat and to share each other's screens. By sharing screens we can see and discuss what is happening on a digital chess board. Here is an example of a lesson I gave practicing chess puzzles: https://youtu.be/YkXCovUxjQ8
